چکیده

In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate an optical frequency comb (OFC) based transmitter, employing directly modulated active demultiplexers, for data center interconnects. The results validate that the proposed transmitter has potential to achieve aggregate rates of 100 Gb/s (8 × 12.5 Gb/s) and 200 25 systems 4- 16- quadrature amplitude (QAM) discrete multi-tone (DMT) modulation. An OFC on externally injected gain switched laser (EI-GSL) is used, providing excellent stability flexibility in free spectral range (FSR). followed by injection locked demultiplexer, which not only filters, but also amplifies individual tones, thus alleviating need external amplifier boost low powered tones. Using configuration, a successful transmission Gb/s/λ 4-QAM DMT 16-QAM signals over 40 km SSMF, respectively. addition, show it possible filter modulate lines are 20 dB below peak, whilst achieving BER hard decision (HD-) FEC limit 3.8e-3. This flattening or expansion feature leads significant increase channel count, turn provides reduction energy consumption footprint transmitter.

SC-FDE for MMF short reach optical interconnects using directly modulated 850 nm VCSELs.

We propose the use of single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) for the compensation of modal dispersion in short distance optical links using multimode fibers and 850 nm VCSELs. By post-processing of experimental data, we demonstrate, at 7.9% overhead, the error-free transmission (over a 4 Mbit sequence) of OOK-modulated 5 Gbps over 2443 meters of OM3 fiber (with a nominal 3300 MHz...

Colloquium: Femtosecond optical frequency combs

Recently there has been a remarkable synergy between the technologies of precision laser stabilization and mode-locked ultrafast lasers. This has resulted in control of the frequency spectrum produced by mode-locked lasers, which consists of a regular comb of sharp lines. Thus such a controlled mode-locked laser is a ‘‘femtosecond optical frequency comb generator.’’ For a sufficiently broad com...

Optical Frequency Combs: From Frequency Metrology to Optical Phase Control

The merging of continuous wave laser-based precision optical-frequency metrology with mode-locked ultrafast lasers has led to precision control of the visible and near-infrared frequency spectrum produced by mode-locked lasers. Such a phase-controlled mode-locked laser forms the foundation of a “femtosecond optical-frequency comb generator” with a regular comb of sharp lines with well-defined f...
